About Us
The Software Training Center (STC) was initiated in the fall of 2003 to offer FREE software training for students, faculty and staff at the City College of New York. The STC offers training in all Microsoft Office applications, City-Mail (the general college E-mail application), Dreamweaver, Photoshop, SPSS, AutoCAD, C++ and MATLAB, among others. Students of the STC have the opportunity to learn in a friendly atmosphere with state-of-the-art technology.
Through the STC students have the opportunity to learn how to:
- Properly use and configure City-Mail
- Design websites
- Create and manage databases
- Use electronic spreadsheets
- Create graphical presentations
- Design publication materials
- Navigate Blackboard 8.0
- Program in three (3) major languages
- Professionally edit images
- Create technical drawings
- Analyze large samples of data using three (3) different programs
The ultimate goal of the STC is to enhance the software skills of the individuals on campus in a manner that will allow them to get ahead both in their education and in their careers. To meet this goal, our staff continuously works hard to ensure that the services offered are of the highest quality and the environment is customer-friendly.
The STC also creates opportunities for a selected group of undergraduates to become part of its staff. Training is one of the most valuable opportunities available to all STC employees. Staff members of the STC:
- Gain advanced skills in the use of computer software
- Develop their teaching skills
- Learn to use advanced technology
STC employees are held to the highest standards by the STC supervising team, and perhaps more significantly, by their STC peers and students. STC strives to develop experienced and professional students who upon graduation will have marketable and transferable skills. Training methods and topics are diverse and flexible to the STC student employees.
